At 80, Michael Sorren Kerr, lost his battle with cancer and was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, January 20, 2012. He was born October 23, 1931, in Kodiak, Alaska, a son of Sorren M. and Christina G. Hobbs Kerr. He married Shirley Ann Songer, in November of 1958 from whom he was later divorced. Michael was raised and attended schools in Alaska. He was a fisherman and a member of the Shunaq Tribe. He was a pilot in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Russian Orthodox Church where he remarried. Upon his retirement, Michael worked as a welder. One of Michael’s greatest talents was his writing. He wrote and published a children’s novel. Upon his death, Michael was survived by five sons and three daughters: Richard Kerr and Allen Kerr of California, Joseph Kerr, Raymond Kerr and James Kerr of Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Christina Dawson of Roy, Utah, Ms. Kathryn Petersen and Ms. Violet Kerr of Ogden; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. At the time of his passing, he was living in Tekoa, Washington. Michael was preceded in death by one brother, Jake Kerr; one sister, Anna Kerr; two sons, Steven Michael Kerr and Daniel Lee Kerr; and one grandson, Mark Randall Dawson Jr. Funeral services were held at St. John’s on Friday, January 27, 2012 where Michael was laid to rest in the St. John Cemetery.
