Dolores Mabel Parsons passed away January 20, 2008 at the Vashon Island Care Center where she lived from July 2003 until her death. She was eighty-four. Del, as her friends called her, was born the eldest daughter of Romain and Mabel (Plum) Haroldson in Coeur d’Alene on October 23, 1923. She graduated from Central High School in Spokane, where she met her future husband, Albert E. Parsons. They married in July 1942 and bore two children, David and Dwayne. Her eldest son, David, is now known as the Very Reverend Abbot Tryphon of the All-Merciful Saviour Russian Orthodox Monastery on Vashon Island. Her youngest son, Dwayne, is an author living with his wife, Claudia, in Sandpoint. Her granddaughter, Sarah Parsons (Dwayne’s daughter), now lives in Sandpoint, ID where she resides with her husband and children. She is a member of Holy Myrrhbearers Antiochian Orthodox Church in Bonners Ferry, ID. Dolores and Albert Parsons moved from Spokane, where Albert was assistant pro at Downriver Golf Course, to Sandpoint where he became the pro at the Elks Public Golf Course. Dolores, having served as organist for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spokane, became the organist at First Lutheran Church of Sandpoint. Dolores was a nationally known award winning piano teacher, who taught piano and organ in Sandpoint for many years. The Parsons’ converted to the Orthodox Church, and were members of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Post Falls, where Del received the name “Elizabeth.” A Panakhida service was served in the monastery’s temple on Vashon Island on January 23, 2008 with the funeral service at St. John the Baptist on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Dolores Mabel Parsons was laid to rest in the St. John Cemetery, next to her husband Al, who died in 2000.
