On October 31, 2009, our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away. Jim was born in Warren, Ohio on March 30, 1930 and attended Warren G. Harding High School, where he was President of National Honor Society. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa from 1948-1950 and Northwestern University Dental School from 1950-1954, where he received his dental degree. Jim was stationed at Fairchild A.F.B. from 1954-1956. After his discharge, he married Katherine Barbas of Seattle and they moved to Warren, Ohio. He practiced dentistry there until 1960. He and Kathy moved back to Spokane for good in 1960 and Jim was associated in practice with his brother-in-law, Dr. T. John Tsalaky. He retired in 1998 after 43 years of practice. He was a member of the American Dental Association and Spokane Dist. Dental Society since 1960. He was also a member of the National Dental Fraternity – Delta Sigma Delta. Jim was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and in 1960 joined AHEPA, a Hellenic men’s organization. Jim was a member of Spokane Valley Rotary since 1961 and was on the Board of Directors of Modern Electric Water Co. since 1985 and recently elected President. Jim’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy and children, Dr. George (Christina) Bourekis of Spokane; Maria (Jerry) Markopoulos of Eugene, OR and six grandchildren: Nicholas, Demetre, Maria, Paras, Katherine and Sophia; sister, Tresa Stavlas and brother, Dr. Lou Bourekis, both of Ohio; sister-in-law, Magdaline Tsalaky of Post Falls, ID; brotherin-law, Peter Barbas of Camano Island, WA; nephew, Gerald Stavlas and nieces Adair Truman, Michelle Whittaker and Teresa Tsalaky.
